Finished with my "Girls"

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

I'm happy to tell everyone that I completed my She Art Girls that I've been working on.  I showed my girls the other day, along with my "goofs".  I'm going to show you the same photos, followed by my completions so you call see what all I have done to finish them.

I don't remember if I shared with you my reason for signing up for the She Art Workshop.  It wasn't so much about making the girls as much as it was to learn how to make art using mixed-media techniques.  I've only painted prior to all of this, using watercolors or acrylics.  I wanted to see what all this fuss was about with mixed media.  I enjoyed it, but to be honest, I probably won't be making the girls again, at least not the way they're shown above.  My reasoning is quite simple really.  I want to make MY OWN versions or art as they reflect more of ME and not a copy of someone else's.  After all, isn't that what an artist is suppose to do!

  1. Oh Carol, I'm so glad you shared your "girls" with us! I'm a mixed media junkie (as you know), and Christy is my FAVORITE teacher. Probably because her style of teaching is a lot like my own. Anyways, I love that you plan on continuing to do your own art and not copy. That is what it's all about;D did you like the class?

  3. Your girls are beautiful! I know what you mean about copying vs doing your own. I did the workshop too, and I really liked learning all the different techniques. It's good to copy the girls in order to learn the techniques at the beginning, and I did some adaptions of them in my art journal, which I liked too. But at the end it's all about inspiration and technique, and using them for doing your own thing.

  6. The girls are wonderful, but I know what you mean about it not being your own work. I find with workshops that I remember the technique, rather than what I created.

  7. nice work, Carol. I'm on a bit of an other way Journey lately, from strictly collage and painting with paper to exploring more with paint and inks. I like your Girls and I also understand the desire to "go your own way" with things. it is interesting to me that I have branched out into the painting as for 2 years I was always sort of pushing away from the paint and strictly painting with paper. what I try to think is that sometimes it's good to have something to "shoot for" or aim at to learn technique, but then take it and push away to make it my own. a lot of things I learned in my workshops from 2009 to 2011 was mixing paper and paint, but Now I am "feeling it" myself. don't know if that makes sense to you, but I am glad for what you wrote because it let me see it more clearly.

  9. These are wonderful but I know what you mean about wanting to make your own. I love taking classes, making what they tell me, and then adapting it to my style. I am looking forward to seeing where you take mixed media!
