One month and counting!

“Get excited and enthusiastic about your own dream. This excitement is like a forest fire - you can smell it, taste it, and see it from a mile away.”

Today begins my one month countdown until I hop on a plane and head west to my first mixed-media retreat.  I knew what mixed media was, but had never gotten involved in it until this past winter while we were in Florida.  I saw something on my facebook page that said Create Mixed-Media Retreat and in checking it out, I just knew I had to sign up for it.  I put out a message to my fly-tribe sisters and one of them responded.  Cindy told me she was going to go and so we decided that we'll room together.  I'm so excited to finally meet one of the members from this huge fly-tribe that I'm in.  Then shortly after everything looked good to go and I had signed up for my workshops, gas prices soared and so did airline tickets.  Long story short, I finally found a way to fly without spending more than I wanted to.

I think my real interest in mixed media began with this wonderful facebook group of women, especially when I started checking out their websites, blogs and seeing their wonderful ATC cards.  Up until then I painted primarily in watercolor and some acrylics.  This is a look at one of my very first mixed media art I created.  It was for our ATC swap...

If you click on the link above, you'll notice that there's actually three retreats:  California, New Jersey and Chicago.  Obviously, I live much closer to Chicago, but the workshops weren't listed yet and I liked what I saw for California.  Everything would pretty much cost the same except for a tad bit more cost of flying than spending the gas driving.  In addition, I have relatives in California whom I haven't seen in years.  I've contacted them and in addition to this retreat, I'll also be having a mini-reunion of sorts with my cousins.

So let the countdown begin!
