May Flower Challenge - Day 25, What are friends for

Friendship isn't a big thing - it's a million little things.

Several gals in my Fly Tribe had participated in an inspiration deck swap, earlier in the year, and one of them, Janet, suggested that we should have one for just our group.  What is an inspiration deck?  Believe it or not but it starts with a deck of cards that each artist turns into an inspiring piece of art.  Because you're suppose to change the card each week to a new saying, we needed 52 decks that will be mailed in to Janet.  We have a large group in our Fly Tribe, but it's a lot of work to commit to a project like this and so we knew there would be a lot of members who would opt out for various reasons.  So that we could get our 52 decks, some of us, including myself, chose to make more than one deck of cards.  I chose to do two.  The first step is to gesso the front of each card...

Although I don't show it anywhere, I also put gesso on the back of each card, too, just to make them look better and for a place for me to acknowledge who made this card.  I decided to complete the first deck before starting on the second, so I would keep the numbers accurate.  Who want to keep counting cards all day, not me!  So the next step is to paint and create.  Don't these colors look luscious...

After painting, words and/or phrases are put onto each card...

Then I sealed and protected each one.  It was then time to start on the second deck of cards...

This deck was going to have three small words, but big impact.  So I thought bright colors would look great...

So here are my two inspiration decks, Deck #1...

Deck #2...

Now I'll send these to Janet and once she receives everyone else's, she'll punch holes in them and attach them to a ring and then send the completed decks back.  Don't you wish you had one?

Gee, I almost forgot to tell you that my flower for the day are Coral Bells...

We have them at our house and at the cottage.  They're very light and fragile looking, but they add just that bit of color to just the right place.  Remember to see the other flowers on Lori's blog.

  2. I love your decks! I wish I was participating, but the last time I did, it took me forever and then the coordinator said my cards showed up totally stuck together. bummer;(

  3. Great decks. I'm working on mine too. This is so much easier since I am working on my Mom's kitchen table. It makes me miss having more space. Love the colors and how different each deck is. By the way, I too love how dainty Coral Bells are - lovely.
