May Flower Challenge - Fresh smells of spring

The flowers of late winter and early spring occupy places in our hearts well out of proportion to their size.

Don't you just love spring, especially if you live in one of the northern climate areas where everything goes to sleep for the winter but wakes up again in early spring!  We have a huge lilac bush in our backyard.  It's so far back that I sometimes forget it's there.  But if I take the time to look, the beautiful lilac color pops out with all of nature around her...

I use to take cuttings so I could bring their fragrance into our house, but unfortunately they never lasted long enough before they wilted away.  If you're familiar with Yankee Candles, they really do have a scent called Lilac Blossoms that smell just the flower.  If I think of it, I will light it occasionally; but usually by the time spring arrives, I'm not sitting in an enclosed house enough to truly enjoy it's scent like I do in the winter months with my candles.

I'm celebrating my love of flowers by taking part in Lori Moon's May Flower Challenge.  I'll be showcasing more flowers through the entire month of May...

So, any big plans for the weekend?  Yesterday, I started working on the slipcover I'm making for my studio chair, and I'm hoping to finish it by the end of this weekend.  We'll see how that goes because something always comes along to detour my well thought out plans.  Positive thoughts, must think positive thoughts!

  1. Carol - it amazes me how seeing a good photo can actually make my other senses work. I can almost smell the lilacs and it takes me back to my parent's back yard. Thank you for that memory. xoxo

  2. Love the lilacs. We have lavender ones up at the mountain house, but they are usually gone by the time we get up there. I think I prefer the pink!
