Sights and Sounds at the Cottage

Nature is the art of God.
                              ~Thomas Browne

I love waking in the morning and listening to the different sounds of nature whenever we're at the Cottage.  Between geese honking and sand hill cranes making their whooping sounds as they fly overhead, all I can say is that it's really great!  I asked Mr. Cottage to describe the sound of a sand hill crane and he said they sound just like a Pterodactyl.  OK??  And I asked how he knew what Pterodactyl's sounded like.  The Movies, where else!!  Yup, Mr. Cottage has a real sense of humor, ha, ha!

My favorite are the sand hill cranes, though....

Then the cute little rabbits that run around our place and keep Molly very inquisitive...

And then there's the geese, as in lots and lots of geese...

The above photo is only a tiny handful of what we usually see.

We also have ducks here and there.  Some of you might remember about the duck that laid her eggs practically outside of our windown last summer.  You can read about it here.

But then there's the unwanted ones.  Spiders are everywhere, just because we live near the water.  It's the big, fast ones that I can't stand and give me the creeps.  Then a few years ago I heard a buzzing sound in the cottage.  I have no idea what it was, but I did it in!  Then another one appeared and then another.  Now every year we see and kill off several a day.  Mr. Cottage and I believe they're some kind of a wasp...

I've tried to Google it and can't seem to find it.  All I know is you can swat and swat at them and it's like they look at you and go "Ha, ha, hee, hee"!!  It's like there's some kind of armor protecting the little suckers.  I told Mr. Cottage we need to get an exterminator, but honestly we have no idea where they're coming in from or where their nest is.

So there you have the sights and sounds of the cottage.  The good and the bad!
