Something tells me I'm not the only one

I am often asked, “Where do you get your ideas?” The short answer is: everywhere. It’s like asking, “Where do you find air to breathe?” Ideas are all around you.

I have to admit that I have three addictions that I'm aware of:  chocolate, Pinterest and magazines.  I love certain magazines and have for years.  This is our family room at home where I keep a stash of magazines...

Yup, pretty bad, isn't it!  I also have a basket that I keep under the coffee table in the same room...

Then we have the Cottage...

and more baskets of magazines...

I just can't help it.  First I MUST have my artsy magazines, I especially love Stampington's Publications.  They're filled with ideas and so much inspiration, and some great ephemera that I can get from some of these...

And living at the Cottage and near Lake Michigan, I have some great decorating magazines that will inspire me and give me more ideas on how to fix things up in our place...

Then there's a few other subscriptions I get...

I've been getting Real Simple almost from the beginning, so I am thinking about not renewing it this year; but This Old House is so full of ideas, especially with us living at the "old" red painted cottage.  Then there are the catalogs that are so hard to part with...

Usually once or twice a year I try to go through some of them and clip out photos and/or articles that I think I might use or want.  But some of the magazines, especially my artsy ones, I can't even bring myself to cut them up.  I do have boxes for some of these in the studio.  I know I'm not the only one who has a problem in buying and saving these magazines.  Please tell me I'm not and that you're just like me!  And if not, how do you manage to part with all the good ones?

  1. It probably won't comfort you to know that a crazy person has the same affliction, but I do. I had every issue of Creating Keepsakes Magazine (like 13 or 14 years worth)including the inaugural issue, and finally FORCED myself to toss them.I've never forgiven myself.
