I Think I've Been Compromised

After growing wildly for years, the field of computing appears to be reaching its infancy.

I love our computers, I really do BUT there are times I wish we lived in a simpler time like back when I was still in grade school and high school.  No cable TV, only 3 stations to watch; definitely no computers and the microwave was still in it's infancy...

The other evening son #2 called to say that his wife got an e-mail from me with no subject and when she opened it up there was nothing but a weird looking link.  About a month ago I received a phone call from someone claiming to have a connection with my credit card number.  They knew my card balance, right down to the penny and the scary part was they knew my card number.  They said they were going to connect with the bank and I would have to verify who I am by giving my Social Security Number and the three digits on the back of my credit card.  H E L L O ...I THINK NOT!  I told Mr. Cottage about this and we both decided I should phone my credit card company.  They assured me that without my SS number and/or the three digits on the back of my card, whoever was calling me and trying to get this information wasn't going to get very far.  But it's scary, non the less, to know that someone out in the world has this information about you. ..

I shared this with my Fly-Tribe and I was shocked to see how many of them had their identities stolen, social security number stolen (from a mortgage deal) and credit card numbers stolen by stores.  Mr. Cottage and I got online yesterday morning to get our free credit report.  So far, so good and I'm hoping it continues that way...

  1. Watch the credit reporting companies! I had fraudulent charges on my credit card from Experian - the banks give them access to your account. When I got a new credit card from the bank, the charges kept appearing, Experian seems to have blocked it but keep a constant eye on your account.

    1. It seems you just need to stay on top of everything with your credit, reports, statements and the whole nine yards!
