DIY Autumn Project

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.
                                                                ~Albert Camus

A while back I saw something on a Facebook posting and I loved the idea of what they showed.  I was going to try and recreate it, but it ended up taking another path entirely...

What I had originally seen was on larger sized pumpkins (I could only find these mini gourds) and it spelled out something entirely different.  Because I had six, I came up with Autumn.  To recreate this idea, the first thing you have to decide is which font you want you use and then play around with the sizes.  I decided I wanted the Stencil font on my Word program and had to print this several times to make sure the letters weren't too large or too small...

Next, cut and seperate each letter...
You will need some kind of transfer paper and a permanent marker, preferably with a brush tip.  I used Faber-Castell and the brush tip is marked with a B.  This can be purchased at Michael's, Hobby Lobby or any art store...

Position your letter where you think you might want it to go and tape it in place.  I tried my best to keep them in the fullest parts and not in the folds or creases...
Slide your transfer paper between your letter and pumpkin and trace over the letter using a regular pencil...

This is what mine looked like...

As you do each one, make sure you like how you have the next set of letters positioned on your pumpkin...

Begin by outlining your lettering on each pumpkin...

Then just fill it in...

Originally, I wanted fake, but real looking small white pumpkins, but couldn't find what I wanted after going to numerous stores.  So I settled on these real mini gourds.  If I were to have found what I had wanted, I would completely seal the lettering with a protective coating.  We don't have any little fingers and hands in our house normally, so I didn't put a protective coating over these.  I wanted to spend as little time as possible because they're going to be thrown out as soon as they start to rot.  To clean up the extra transfer paper markings, I used paper towels dipped in alcohol and/or water to remove the graphite markings.

Finally it's starting to look like autumn around our house...

Let me know what you think and it you're going to try something similar!
