I'm going to be just a tad honest here and tell you I'm taking an online course called How To Build A Blog You Truly Love with the wonderful Liv Lane. For this course we were told to write a blog posting where we revealed a bit of ourselves, our fears, and/or to get out of our comfort zone.
So I'm going to talk about something I really try to avoid, like my age! I know some of you are aware that I retired early and that Mr. Cottage and I just spent our 7th winter in Florida. I've been on a real roll these past few years, especially this last year. I announced yesterday on this blog that it was my 1 year blogiversary. If you haven't already done so, please go to this posting now and enter for my first ever giveaway for some of my artwork. You can enter until this coming Sunday evening. Anyways, what I'm getting to is that I've entered the world of blogging with so many younger people. Geez, for some of you, I'm old enough to be your mother, and in some cases, your grandmother! But I have to be honest and tell you that for me, age is just a number (now if only my aches and pains would just realize that!).

Now for the revelation...I'm going on Medicare in October. YIKES!! I'm going to be 65 years old! There, it's out in the open now, but I honestly have a mind that thinks I'm only 45-50 years old. I wrote my motto in the sand this past winter...
If you believe you can do something, truly believe it, then regardless what obstacles are in your way, you can achieve your dreams. For me it has always been art. My favorite paintings have been with watercolors, but I always heard how hard it was to work with. So it wasn't until three years ago I decided to try it and guess what? I fell in love with it and it with me. I may not have 40 plus more years to get very experienced with it like many artist my age have been doing since majoring in art while in college, but I'll do what I can with what I can, while I can.
Just because us older folks are just that...OLDER, doesn't mean we rock in our rocking chairs from morning to night. Our son, #2, says we're never home and he can't ever get a hold of us. Well, maybe that's because Mr. Cottage and I are always on the go wherever the fun is taking us...

I love your header design and name of your blog - really cute! And your post made me smile and have a few tears...loved it! I am also doing Liv's course and I find it great that we can share so many things even though our ages are so different, i don't even think about how old someone is when reading their blog!
ReplyDeleteOh Carol ~ Happy almost birthday! You look lovely!!! I am glad to hear you have a young heart and are not afraid to live the life you want to live. I too feel much younger than my 53 years. I like to think I still feel 35 ~ but my body too is telling me otherwise. Very nice post today ~ and being brave!
ReplyDeleteLove your post Carol, great to see you having so much fun. I really like your work too.
ReplyDeleteYou're an inspiration for all of us rushing through life and wondering where the time is going!
ReplyDeleteI love your picture in your hat! I just turned 50 and am adjusting to being in a new age group. For some reason I almost feel ashamed of it, but I don't know why. I hope coming out with your age is as inspiring to you as it is to me. Thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous daah-ling. Your blog design is great and I love the upbeat feel of you an your writing. And I feel the same way about my grandparents (82 and 80) they are hard to get a hold of b/c they are always doing something same with my 60 yr old parents. I am looking forward to having so much fun and I am glad that you are obviously taking advantage of life. (btw I will be using the sage wisdom of life is like a roll of TP from now on)
ReplyDeleteI also love the picture of you in the hat! I also love that you are embracing your age, AS YOU SHOULD! I don't know if it will continue, but despite physical changes, each decade seems to get better and better! And your art is awesome!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love Lake Michigan and grew up in Grand Rapids. I moved to Minnesota after college. Also, I love Florida and can't wait to be a snow bird when I retire!
What a fabulous shout out! Your young spirit just shines in this post!!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, your son's comments about finding you and your husband made me laugh! It reminded me of some of the recent car commercials where the adult children are feeling sorry for their parents who they assume are stuck at home eating leftovers and going to bed far too early. In truth they are out having the time of their lives!
Thank you for the powerful inspiration and encouragement!

Happy, happy birthday! 65 is the new 45 and you obviously live that. Congratulations on being brave enough to put it out there, you are owning it :)
ReplyDeleteSooo funny... I love the truth in humor.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I agree 65 is the new 45, if you just keep doing all the things you LOVE--- life just shines out of you!!!! Thank-you. Cheryl
ReplyDeleteYay for living each day and every year (no matter what our age adds up to) surrounded with vibrant beauty and joy!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Embrace your age and rock it! Dispell the myths of what 65 should look at. We all know it's a load of bull anyway. Be as old as you feel and go for it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Carol! I love that you're not afraid to embrace new things and live playfully at any age. And, rest assured, we've had plenty of 60-somethings take BBTL so you're not alone! Great share!
ReplyDeleteNice blog post... Thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! I admire how you've taken life by the horns and enjoy every minute of it!
ReplyDeleteThe next time I catch myself wishing a day away, I'm going to think about that roll of toilet paper! You've illustrated why it's so valuable to live our moments as long as we have them. We can't slow down time... but we can experience its fullness!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post, Carol, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love that your age hasn't kept you from trying something new. What a great outlook!
