| “Our life is composed greatly from dreams, from the unconscious, and they must be brought into connection with action. They must be woven together.” | |
Early on in weaving baskets, I started to weave wide strips of veneer ash or veneer maple into some of the baskets, where either I painted on them or in some cases I paid others to help paint on them to save me time. This first one is lightly stained and is painted with geraniums...
I stained a few of the baskets in a light gray which were a big seller... The Southwest look was quite popular at the time and the one below was whitewashed after I made it. It was more like a paint than a stain and took forever to do...
This is woven with reed and seagrass...
We've all heard of Nantucket Baskets. I took a workshop where I made the following Nantucket basket; and after I finished it, I really understood why they cost so much. They're woven on a wooden mold, with cane. The one I made below is really small and it took hours to weave. Look at the nails in the rim...
I have more of my baskets laying around the house and cottage, but this gives you an idea of what I made and sold for many years. Just wondering if any of you have ever tried weaving a basket before. It really is very relaxing! |
