A Real Fight

You will find something more in woods than in books. Trees and stones will teach you that which you can never learn from masters.

I mentioned that we found the old campground that our friend, Marybeth, once camped at when she was a teenager.  While she was out exploring and taking photos, her husband, Jim, Mr. Cottage and myself got out of the car and decided to take in a bit of nature.  We immediately noticed a mother duck leading her brood of ducklings across the lawn at the campground...

She never noticed the three ducks that were off to her right.

It's like the three of those white ducks discussed about this brood going across their territory and decided they didn't like it...

So off the three of them went to confront the mother...

I was totally in disbelief when one of the white ducks took chase with the mother.  In fact, it was pretty bad a couple of times.  I saw the white duct literally grab hold of the mother's long neck in his mouth.  Gosh, do we intervene or what??  I looked over at Jim and Mr. Cottage and they're just standing there watching and not doing anything.  I was almost ready to give chase when fortunately the fighting came to an end and the mother continued on with her ducklings.

I only had my iPhone with me and to tell you the truth, I was too mesmerized to take any photos at all.  This was just too much stress for me.  I'm just glad that the ducklings still had their mother.  Whew!!  Nature was at work, I guess.

  1. The brutality of nature is the part I really don't like. I have a hard time not intervening myself.
