Mock Whipped Cream Frosting (non-cooked method)

I want to have a good body, but not as much as I want dessert.

First, I want to thank everyone who stopped by this blog or my facebook pages yesterday to wish Mr. Cottage and I a happy anniversary.  Still hard to believe that 44 years went by in a flash.  I knew son #1 and his family were coming in from Virginia so I decided to bake a devils food cake.  I have to admit that it was from a box and not from scratch.  But, I always make homemade frosting for any of my cakes.  Mr. Cottage and I don't need to eat all those calories, so I usually bake when I know we're having company.  I've been wanting to share this frosting recipe with you for sometime right now.  I think you'll really enjoy it...

MOCK WHIPPED CREAM FROSTING (NON-COOK METHOD)

1 cup shortening, like Crisco
1 stick butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cream shortening and butter.  Gradually add the sugar and beat with an electric mixer until well blended.  Gradually add the evaporated milk and vanilla and beat until all of the sugar has dissolved.  This will take around 10 minutes.  This is great with any cake.

There's only the five ingredients...

Add the 1 cup shortening and 1 stick of softened butter and beat together with a mixer.  Then gradually add the sugar and beat until it's well blended...

Gradually pour in the evaporated milk...

and the vanilla...

Continue to beat for approximately 10 minutes or until all the sugar is dissolved.  Until everything is mixed well, you'll see the separation of the liquid and shortening, which is normal...

After everything is whipped together it will look just like whipped cream...

There's enough for a layer cake or just for spreading on the top of 9 x 13 cake, as I did...

I hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

  1. Sometimes I find it very hard to keep balanced between a healthy body and eating dessert. Yesterday was my 67th birthday and my nephew who is a chef made a special meal for me which included my favorite grilled salmon, but dessert was flaming baked Alaska. Oh, my . . . it was so good. I will be trying your recipe, it looks so fluffy and lite . . . couldn't be fattening, right? LOL. I am your newest follower and I would love to invite you to follow me back. I live in the Pacific Northwest and have for 38 years, but I'm a Mid-Westerner at heart. Born and raised in Northern Indiana. Have a great week and I hope to hear from you, Connie :)
