"Why do we love the sea? It is because it has some potent power to make us think things we like to think."
~Robert Henri
I know that the majority of people have never seen any of the Great Lakes; and whenever I'm with anyone who sees it for the first time, I'm always amazed that they make comments about it looking just like the ocean. Having lived near Lake Michigan for many years, I've never tired of seeing this lake, which really is just like an ocean!
Every time I go to Grand Haven, especially to see our grandson Corbin, I always take the same route back home, going through Grand Haven and along the Lake. Just around this bend...
is always the view that I love to see...
This is the first time I've driven along the lake to see all the sand on the road...
The wind was blowing and there were dark clouds and rain just to the north, but there were all kinds of cars and people just taking in the view and many more like me who were taking photos. The next two photos were taken at the city beach...
I just wish I had brought my larger lens, but not bad considering...
Then I drove to the State Park...
and then over to the channel. The boardwalk was covered in sand and a trawler was heading out. I couldn't make out if it was a fishing vessel or the Coast Guard...
And I couldn't get over how rough the channel was. Just looking at it you could get seasick...
Yes, that's a guy with a surfboard...
and he's definitely headed to do some surfing...
If you ever get near Lake Michigan, take the opportunity and visit some of the neat ports and beaches along the way. It really is spectacular!
Awesome photos, they sure do show nature's fury!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I love your photos. It remind me of visiting my Grandparents in Milwaukee and taking a drive North along Lake Michigan (of course I would have seen it from the other side). :)
