The other evening, The Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) held a small thank you reception for all the volunteers who helped out during Artprize. After the reception, we were all given a special pass to go into the main areas of the museum and wander around.
A new exhibit had just opened, called Real/Surreal which was organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and includes over sixty paintings, drawings, photographs, and prints...
Looking at some of these photos I think you'll understand why it's called Real/Surreal...
Some of the paintings looked like dreamscapes from distant planets.
GRAM is the first stop on a national tour of this exhibition...
The one shown above is called Shadows and the one below is called Subway...
We all decided that we really wouldn't want any of these hanging on our walls in our houses; but I can tell you that we had some pretty good conversations over some of this art.
