This is one of the best buttermilk biscuit recipes I've ever made.  I use my food processor, but will give you directions both ways...

BUTTERMILK BISCUITS

2 cups flour
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.  Mix flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar and baking soda in a large bowl until well blended.  Using a pastry blender, but in the butter until the mixture resembles course crumbs.  Add buttermilk; stir with fork until mixture forms a soft dough.

Place on lightly floured surface; knead 20 times or until smooth.  Pat or roll out dough to 1/2 inch thickness.  Cut into circles with floured 2 inch biscuit cutter.  Place on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake 12 minutes or until golden brown.

 Gather ingredients...

Add all the dry ingredients to your food processor...

And mix well...

Cut the well chilled 1/3 cups of butter into smaller pieces.

Add to the food processor and mix until well blended...

Pour in the 3/4 cup of buttermilk while the machine is running...

Continue to run the food processor as it kneads your dough...

When it's finished, put the dough on a lightly floured surface...

Roll until it's a good 1/2 thick and begin cutting out your biscuits...

When you can't cut anymore, gather up the remaining dough and gently roll out again...

Bake at 450 degrees for 12 minutes...

I'll share the yummy beef stew recipe with you tomorrow.
