Life seems nothing more than a quick succession of busy nothings."
~From the movie Mansfield Park
I know I went from there to here by not posting anything for almost an entire month, but now that things have slowed down a bit, I can share some of what I wasn't able to at the moment...
Keep in mind that Mr. Cottage and I have lived in this same house for 43 years. To save on costs, we packed all our own boxes over the course of several weeks...
I have to seriously confess that I felt no remorse or regrets from moving. I think it's because it truly was the time to move on. I had to go through the house with the movers and keep my eye on things as they were being loaded into the moving truck because a number of our belongings were actually going to stay for an estate sale. As the movers were finishing up, the person who was going to do our estate sale arrived...
About two hours before the estate sale ended, I showed up at the house to claim any unsold items I still wanted vs. having to go to a liquidator. The liquidator showed up and took only the things he wanted. Fortunately for us, one of his helpers approached me and offered to load everything that was left into a dumpster, if we would let him keep the metal shelving and some other items that were left over. Of course I accepted his offer!
The next morning the dumpster arrived and EVERYTHING, including up in the garage rafters and corners of closets were emptied into the dumpster.
As I write this, Mr. Cottage and I are getting ready for the closing on the house which will be this afternoon. The buyers were hoping it could have been last Wednesday so they could have had the holiday time for moving, but unfortunately their bank couldn't get all the paperwork completed in time.
So now we move on to the next phase, finding a new house!
