Don't let aging get you down. It's too hard to get back up.
~John Wagner
When we bought our condo, it really was move in ready, EXCEPT for some updating. The first thing we did was to get rid of all the shiny brass lights. Then we had our contractor put tile into both bathrooms. I have a real dislike for vinyl flooring. I don't care what kind you buy, over a matter of years they just don't look so great any more. I had all our kitchen cabinets painted white, new countertops and backsplash, and we're replacing all the interior doors. Of course, Mr. Cottage keeps saying if our house was move in ready, why are we doing all this extra work? What he's really saying is "how much more is this going to cost"? My thinking on all this is that it took us 43 years to get our house the way we really wanted it and at this stage, we don't have another 43 years to get our condo the way we really want it. So I want to get everything done now, so Mr. Cottage and I can sit back in our golden years and enjoy what we have. I hope this is making sense to you, because it sounds pretty rational to me.
For years, I'm the one who always painted the trim in our house. Mr. Cottage did the ceilings and wall, and somewhere over time, I seemed to have taken on more of the walls, too. This really doesn't bother me because for the most part I really don't mind painting. I have the patience for it, unlike Mr. Cottage. Back on August 20, I posted about me painting a few of the baseboards where I knew some heavy furniture was going to be placed by our moving company. If you click right here, you'll see how to paint baseboards when you have carpeting.
This coming Tuesday, the painter is finally coming to remove a little bit of floral wallpaper and to paint the kitchen, bathrooms and one large (and very high wall) in our living room. He had told me that he wanted everything finished before he painted. I'm just having him paint the walls and I decided to save some money and paint the trim. Well, back in August everything went great. My knee injections I had the end of May were still doing their job. Fast forward to yesterday and oh, my aching and locked up knee! Everytime I got up to move was so excruciating. I was able to get the tape onto the living room carpet and then I had to tape the tiled floors and finally I got two coats of primer on them before I called it quits for the day. Today I got the two coats of semi-gloss paint on and removed all the tape and now I'm hurting just a tad. I think this is going to be an Aleve night. Anyways, here's a peek at my finished work...
I still plan on painting the rest of all the stained trim throughout the house, a little bit at a time or until Mr. Cottage can scrape up more $$ for a painting pro.

As someone who enjoys some home painting DIY, I have to say you did an AMAZING job!! Sorry it took a toll on your knees though - it is a drag when our bodies don't work as they used to =\
ReplyDeleteThanks Creative Beast. I still have lots to do and from this point on I can pretty much go at a slower pace.
