“A place for everything and everything in its place.”

A few weeks back, I shared on my Facebook page a photo of the fabric above and said it was "of things to come". Now I can share with you what I did with it.
Have I told you how much I love Pinterest...LOL! Well over a year ago I found pins on how to cover and make your own storage bins. You can see some of them, along with directions and tutorials here. You can use paint, papers or fabric to cover your bins. Corbin was still in diapers at the time and I was able to obtain 3 diaper boxes. I also had 2 rolls of fabric I had ordered when we lived in our other house and never ended up using them. I didn't want them to go to waste, so I decided to use these for the liners. I did go out to buy canvas, but couldn't find any that were an off white and drop cloths would have been too dark. So I bought white, thinking that with my white shelves they would look great.
So I started off by cutting off the flaps and I used duct tape to tape up the handles to give more strength to the top of the boxes...
Then I went ahead and followed the instructions on how to cut and glue my fabric. The instructions I used said to glue with spray adhesive, but I used Mod Podge instead. WHY I never checked my liner fabric with the fabric I glued onto my boxes ahead of time, I have no answer for. So when I was ready to start on the liners, I decided the white was too bright...
Now if I had checked it before gluing, I could have just dyed the white fabric in a pot of hot tea. I wasn't going to let anything go to waste, so I came up with the next best idea. I would paint the tea dye onto the boxes in our walk-in shower...
Mr. Cottage didn't notice a difference until the two fabric were put together...
Tomorrow I'll share about the lining and how everything turned out.

I love this idea! I've got an old box with a lid that is a nice substantial size for storage (it held rain boots!) and covering the box and lid with paper or fabric would be a great way to recycle it into a prettier storage box...and to think I was almost going to put it into the paper waste bin! Thanks for sharing this idea and can't wait to see how your bins turned out =)
