Ever since we moved, I've been wanting a bulletin board. Our other house had a built-in desk with a huge bulletin board that was glue on the wall and it was right in our kitchen. Last year I found an old bulletin board at an antique store for $10. But then life got in the way and it wasn't until recently I was able to transform it...
The cork was old with noticeable holes and it had an old wood frame. Unfortunately, the way it was constructed, I wouldn't be able to remove the corkboard to cover it and to paint the wood...So I used painters tape, primed and painted the frame an off white. I found some great boxes to use as storage containers in our coat closet (from Michaels), but I didn't want to waste the beautiful lids and I didn't really need them...
So after measuring, I carefully removed the printed burlap from the lid...
I used one for the top half of the board and I had extra burlap laying around that I used for the lower half. I used a spray adhesive to apply everything to the cork board. I don't like using this stuff, so when we had a January thaw a few weeks ago, I did this out in the garage with the door opened. After every thing was on, I used a palette knife to work the burlap edges under the painted frame and then used Tim Holtz distressed ink, I applied this to the regular burlap to help it match the one on the upper portion...
I thought that would be it until I saw something on Pinterest. Ballard Designs had a sale a few weeks back on their Document Gift Wrap so that's what I used to add to my frame, using Mod Podge...
Everything's coming together. I'm waiting for a few more items that I've ordered and then, hopefully, I'll show you our new command center.
