Please Come In To Our Red Painted Cottage

Welcome, May all who enter as guests, leave as friends.

Welcome to our Red Painted Cottage.  Mr. Cottage LOVES to fish, so there's a real fishing theme going on in here.  I found this sign for the door in Shipshewana, Indiana a number of years ago.  It was quite country looking and a bit blah, so I decided to paint and make it over...

So come on in...

As we enter, you'll see the bulkhead with an old paddle that I painted and first distressed with beeswax.  You can read more about this technique here...

On a wall just across from the door, is this cool light...

This is what it looks like at night, all lit up...

I debated whether to put a bench or a table near the door and the table won.  Unfortunately, this was a table I had purchased at Hobby Lobby many years ago to put my dollhouse on top of.  Obviously, that was short lived.  Yes, that's a window air-conditioner for when it's really hot.  Fortunately being on the lake, there's almost always a breeze and the temperature is usually a tad cooler than in town...

In case you didn't know, old jugs make great doorstops...

Just a few local finds and one of Mr. Cottage's collection of birds.  By the way, this table was the very first piece of furniture I painted using different techniques.  The top was created with Saran Wrap...

Because Mr. Cottage and I love Bluegill Fish, we had to buy this clock when we saw it at an art show while in Florida...

If you've never eaten Bluegill, it's a VERY mild fish, just like freshwater Lake Perch.  So good!

Our entry was originally part of the front porch that was enclosed.  It's quite a nice size room, and is currently used for other purposes, than just an entry.  I'll show you next time!
