Hummingbirds at the cottage

A flash of harmless lightning, A mist of rainbow dyes, The burnished sunbeams brightening From flower to flower he flies.                                                                                           - John Banister Tabb

The other day as Mr. Cottage and I were enjoying a fabulous day just sitting outside, we noticed that the hummingbirds were flying around the feeder we had for them...

The last time I tried taking photos of them, they all turned out to be a big blur.  But that was before I purchased my new camera.  I have to say I'm pretty impressed on how some of my photos turned out...

They love perching in the tree right above the feeder...

I was even able to catch it perching on the feeder...

What's really amazing is you can hear them sometimes before you see them.

It should come as no surprise that I painted A Taste of Summer and put a hummingbird into it...

  1. You did get some great shots! I love these little birds. We use to have a lot of them around our yard, but over the years they seem to have moved on. We did have one get trapped in our inclosed porch once, and I had to catch it in a net. Such a delicate operation. The little guy just became very still in my hand and allowed me to gently hold him for a few seconds before he flew away. He was amazingly beautiful and I was blessed to have had the chance to be up close and personal with him even if just for a few moments.
