Whimsical Flowers

Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair...

I've been working on and off on an old, beat up chair that I purchased a few years ago at an estate sale.  I found it up in the attic of this sale and in really rough shape.  You could tell that it once had a cane seat.  I got it for only a few dollars.  I really did take before photos of this chair, but I've searched my files and just can't located them.  They're probably filed away in some file that has nothing to do with the photo I placed there.

Our small cottage has a bathroom that is more than large enough to have a chair sitting in it.  Go figure!  It would have been nice to have a bit more room in other parts of our cottage instead.  I decided to paint it a nice bright red because the room faces north and just doesn't get much sunlight...

I also wanted to paint it around my valance in that room...

I have to be honest here and tell you my valance is actually two kitchen towels I purchased a number of years ago in a resort town in Michigan.  I really had plans to do something else with them, and the next thing I knew I was folding them over the valance rod and making them look just like a real valance without any sewing at all!

I took the yellow flower in my valance and expanded it with my chair...

Because the original chair had a big hole where the caning once was, I drew out a pattern and had Mr. Cottage cut a seat for me.  The tacks were easy to attach the seat to the chair.

If you look at the valance, you'll see a light orchid color, so I painted some in for some additional contrast...

I'm really pretty happy on how my old beat up chair turned out.  What do you think?

  3. How darling is that? I love it. What did he use to fill in the seat? It looks thin. I'm a new follower and you should check out my blog o versary giveaway @ http://pjhdesignsoneofakind.blogspot.com/2012/07/bed-to-bench-and-giveaway.html
