Wish I had known then what I know now

Don't fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things.  The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have.

Remember this table I bought a few weeks ago for only $25?

I decided rather than leave the inside of the drawer as it is or to paint it, I decided to decoupage it with some scrapbooking paper I had laying around the house.  I bought some ModPodge and after reading the directions, it mentioned that it may be tacky, even after drying and to prevent this to apply clear acrylic sealer.  There is no way I wanted, or needed, the inside of this drawer to be sticky.  We're up at the cottage and the only thing I had around was Ceramcoat Satin Varnish.  I knew it was acrylic and it was a sealer, of sorts, so I decided to spread this over my dried inside drawer...

As soon as it dried I noticed the tackiness was gone.  I let it cure for a few days and then put some of my markers inside of it...

I'm happy to report that this worked wonders.  Sometimes in using gel mediums and ModPodge, a tackiness does occur.  Now I know a simple light coat of this acrylic varnish will solve that dilemma.  I sure wish I had known about this before I sent off my inspiration deck cards because many of them stuck together in their travels to California.

  1. Wow, we have the EXACT same table. With porcelain top. It belonged to my husband's grandmother. She came from Scotland in the early 1900's.
Everyone in our family has used it at one time or another. It's special!!!
