~Henry David Thoreau
Mr. Cottage and I went to the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park early this morning. I went last year with my friend, Kelly, when she came to visit me in the fall; and I wanted to go back and take Mr. Cottage along with me. Right now, until October 28, is their annual Chrysanthemums event. We decided to get a membership to the Gardens a few years ago when the Chihuly Exhibit was there. We are very fortunate to live only minutes away from this wonderful garden and park. I just read that it is one of the largest sculpture parks and also a top cultural destination in the midwest. As Mr. Cottage and I strolled the grounds today, I couldn't help but be most grateful to Frederik and Lena Meijer for this wonderful addition to our city...
Inside the conservatory and some smaller sculptures...
Look what I see...
This is a sign that was posted in the conservatory...
and immediately after reading it, look what we saw...
Do you know what it is...
Mr. Cottage knew it was a quail as soon as he saw it. Here's some sculptures...
And the most popular one, Leonardo's Horse, which stands 24 feet tall...
This was just announced within the past few weeks. If you click on their site, they have photos of what it will look like and it will be huge...
Today we decided to take a different path once we left the conservatory. There's 132 acres of wetland, woodland, meadows and gardens and it's hard to take it all in at one time. So the path we followed today was for the Michigan farm garden...
You have to have crows...
And a darling shed...
Frederik Meijer died in 2011 and is buried here...
We continued the path which took us all around the wetlands. Just listening to the sounds of nature was wonderful...
What a way to start our day! I'll show more tomorrow. There's just so much to share with you.
How fabulous! What a wonderful place.
