The Internet is so big, so powerful and pointless that for some people it is a
complete substitute for life.
~Andrew Brown
I really apologize for not having any postings for awhile, but we have been without our internet since last Thursday. I hope you're sitting down because I have quite a story to tell you about Comcast, our internet provider.
I contacted Comcast Friday morning and gave all the information that the representative asked for. He told me that it looked like we had good signal strength coming into our modem and maybe the problem was with our computer. I told him we had a great computer that wasn't very old. Mr. Cottage and I insisted that they send a technician out to fix the problem. We were told that someone would be out between noon and 2 pm on Sunday. The evening before, I received a computer call telling me that they'll call again tomorrow and if they don't get a response, then no one will come. Mr. Cottage and I left church early enough to make sure we would be home in plenty of time. We got a couple of calls and finally we got a call from the technician. He said he was at our door. I looked out and told him that I didn't see him or his truck and asked where he was. He was at OUR HOUSE IN MICHIGAN! We are wintering in Florida and I had given the representative our Florida address. OMG, if it had been April 1, I would have thought that someone was playing an April Fool's joke on us. The technician patched me through to a dispatcher, but she said she couldn't help because she was in Michigan and I needed to contact someone in Florida.
I finally got a hold of another representative and asked to speak to her supervisor. After going back and forth for a few minutes, she finally got her supervisor. He told me that for our inconvenience, he would get a technician out after 3 pm on Sunday, and he gave me a confirmation number, his name and ID number. At 6:15, with it starting to get dark out, I decided to call Comcast again and see if they were still coming out. After several frustrating tries, Mr. Cottage ended up talking to someone here in Florida. When he gave her the confirmation number, she said apparently there had been a glitch on their end, because her computer told her that OUR COMPUTER PROBLEM HAD BEEN RESOLVED AND NO ONE WAS COMING OUT NOW! UNBELIEVABLE! First they show up in the wrong state and now they cancelled help for us.
As Mr. Cottage was on the phone, I kept telling him to ask to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor told him that they would have someone out to our place this coming Wednesday, but that she would put in an emergency ticket to try and expedite things. Long story short, they finally came out this morning and the problem was on the outside of our place, with their wiring. GEEZ! Twenty years ago I don't think I had even heard of the internet and now we can't live without it. How times are a changing.
I've been busy painting up a storm over the past few days, between no internet and it being too cold to be outside (yes, even here in Florida it can get cold). Here are a couple of paintings that I actually painted a few weeks ago but I'm just getting around to share with all of you now...
