Tom Jones (the artist)

”Happy are the painters, for they shall not be lonely. Light and colour, peace and hope, will keep them company to the end of the day."
                                                                                      ~Winston Churchill.

This past Tuesday I was able to attend a watercolor workshop by Tom Jones, a nationally recognized artist.  He's known for his wonderful landscapes.  Here's a couple of them that he brought along with him...

This is the first time I painted on 300 lb. watercolor paper and I have to say that I loved it.  I learned so many new and wonderful techniques...

I love watching artists paint.  They always do so with such confidence and ease and makes everything look easier than it really is...

I heard him say about leaving some white areas, but obviously I forgot where and the next thing I knew I had too much color.  When I showed this to him, he ended up demonstrating on how to change this area to make it lighter.  His finished painting is shown at the top of this blog posting.  Mine isn't like his, but it still turned out pretty good...

I've been meaning to share this with everyone sooner, but I'm in an art show on Saturday, and in addition to this workshop, I've had lots to do to prepare for it.  Then to top it off, I started getting a sore throat yesterday, along with sinus and feeling really tired; so this hasn't helped matters for me this week.

  1. I love watercolor. These are incredible. Absolutely beautiful post.

We were at Big Cedar in SW MO, this week. We weren't able to buy originals, but we were delighted to purchase prints from the lodge Plein Air Collection to commemorate our visit. Plein Air interests me.

I haven't painted in several years. When I was painting,I found it extremely satisfying. My last paintings were murals done in private homes and businesses. I was in artist guild a few years and participated in a show or two. Always wished I had gone further with it.
