Happy 2014!
A new year is unfolding--like a blossom with petals curled tightly concealing the beauty within. - Unknown
Because things have been so hectic and busy with the holidays and my shows, Mr. Cottage and I finally took time on Friday for a date day to the Meijer Gardens. Ever since we've been going down to Florida, we haven't been around, or we've been busy packing to attend the Meijer Gardens for their Christmas display...
Every year they have a number of Christmas trees decorated in various themes from around the world, along with a plaque that tells the country and some of their traditions about their Christmas trees. This one represents the United States from the 1940's to the 1950's...
Because I'm Hungarian, I found the tree representing Hungary...
And with Mr. Cottage being part English, the tree representing England...
Mr. Cottage is also part German and as many people know, Germany was one of the first countries to make beautiful glass ornaments...
They also started the custom of hiding the pickle somewhere on the tree and to see who could find it first. Mr. Cottage found it before I did...
And for all our Jewish friends...
We've all seen the regular red and white poinsettias , but we had never see any like the two shown below, the pinkish red with white...
And the red with curly edges...
But the part Mr. Cottage really looked forward to was the train...
It traveled all around, going over bridges and down below were buildings representing actual buildings and houses in the Grand Rapids area...
This is the McKay Towers and the old Pantland Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids...
And off in the distance is Big Red, the nickname given to the lighthouse in Holland, Michigan...
I had to share these two other photos. We celebrated Christmas Eve at our house and here, Corbin opened one of the presents we gave to him, with his father's help...
Our daughter-in-law, Erin, shared this photo she took of him a day or two later...
Hoping 2014 is a great year for everyone!
