First off, I want to give a big shout out of THANK YOU to anyone who helped support us and who donated in anyway to help us reach Nicole's goal. I'll be going with her and Lori next month for her surgery. I kind of put my life on hold for a few months to help her reach her goal, which I would gladly do again, if I had to. Since her fundraiser ended, I've gone back to doing other projects and reading great books again.
I know I haven't written a blog posting in such a long time but I'm going to try to get you caught up on other things over the next few weeks. During this time, Corbin had surgery on both of his eyes to help correct what is known as "lazy eyes". The surgery went fine, but time will tell if he'll need any more surgery.
I was going to go and see him last week and his mother, Erin, told me they were going to the zoo and did I want to join them. I haven't been to our local zoo since Mr. Cottage and I took our granddaughter, Sophia, when she was 2-3 years old (she just turned 11 in June). I couldn't believe how much has been done to our zoo in those few years. Erin told me that they had bought a membership so they could take Corbin more often, but she warned me that right now, Corbin is in a hands-on mode. If he can't touch it, he's not that interested. So we started off towards their petting area and where the huge wooden train was...
Along the path to the train and petting area, I saw the beautiful bald eagles and this great horned owl...
Corbin joined in with the other kids and started climbing in and out of the wood train...
Things went along pretty well until Corbin saw a bunch of kids on top of the engine and they were jumping off and getting back on again. I might add these were much older kids. Erin and I happened to look over and saw him get on top and without thinking, jumped off with the others. She ran over to him and I guess he was more stunned than anything. Good thing it wasn't much higher or he could have hurt himself...
We took him over to the petting area...
And then we went into a small building and saw these colorful poison frogs. Mr. Cottage and I have see these kind before and we've often commented about how it was determined that they were so poisonous...
There was also an area where you could pet and feel the stingrays. Unfortunately, Corbin had second doubts about touching them...
Next time I'll show you what I was thrilled about seeing that they just opened up this summer.
