My Word of the Year

Watercolor is like life. Better get it right the first time – you don't get a second chance!

When I decided to write this blog post, I noticed that I hadn't written anything since the end of November!  I was going to try and write my first post of the new year, yesterday; but Mr. Cottage and I were busy putting all the Christmas decorations away and getting our house back to normal again.

December really was a crazy month for me, as I'm sure it was for you, too.  Between shopping, baking, wrapping and everything else in between, I got an order from my Etsy shop for a custom watercolor painting.  I had forgotten to remove my custom orders from my Etsy shop for the month of December, so it was my own fault.  And I had set it up incorrectly, because the person was able to buy it immediately without contacting me first.  I contacted her right away and told her I would have it completed by the end of December or early January.  Her father-in-law took the photo, as this is to be a special gift for my customer's mother-in-law.  I had a lot of questions which all got answered, and a couple days after Christmas I started painting the house.  Here's the photo that was sent to me...

I got the final approval yesterday and just mailed it to my customer this morning.  Here's a photo of the watercolor painting I did...

As much as I enjoyed getting back to painting with watercolors again, I'm not going to be painting for awhile because my art studio is in dire need of organization.  And while I work on getting everything put away and organized, I've decided the one large room needs to be repainted.  Mr. Cottage and I didn't notice the color of the walls in our lower level until we moved in and started putting items into this room.  It's really an off-white/soft beige with a pink undertone.  Right now I'm leaning towards a gray because our good wool oriental rug from our other house is currently in this huge space and it has lots of red in it.

2015 is going to be the year that I'm really going to focus on painting with watercolor.  That's where my true love of creating is.  I've also decided I'm going to try my best at writing at least one blog post a week.  This is the closest you'll get me to a New Year's resolution.  So I guess my word of the year should really be FOCUS.  So HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone and may 2015 be a fantastic year for you!

  1. I flirted with "focus" because there are so many things I'm interested in and want to do that it gets hard for me to get anything done, but in the end, I believe that the over-riding impetus for the year is "home". So "home" it is!
