Repurposed Pillow From A Sundress

Being creative is not a hobby; it is a way of life.

I shared this on my Facebook page several weeks ago, but I'm so pleased on how this turned out, I've decided to share it with everyone...

My sister bought a beautiful Laura Ashley sundress a number of years ago.  After she died in 1998, I decided to keep it, even though I never cared for it on me.  The feel of the fabric was heavenly, just unbelievably soft.  Because of the longer length, there was plenty of fabric, so I decided to make a pillow cover from it.  I forgot to take a photo of the dress, so after I cut it into two pieces, I decided to take a photo.  This was the top...

And I decided to cut out the label and keep it...

This was the bottom of the dress...

Prior to cutting and sewing the pillow cover, a couple of years ago, when I first thought about make a pillow cover from this dress, I was very fortunate to find this small polka dot fabric from Joann Fabrics.  I didn't buy very much because I figured I would only do the piping...

After playing around, I discovered I might have enough for two pillow covers.  This is the first one I made...

Then I decided to do some piecing to make the second pillow 1) just because it would look unique and different and 2) because I didn't have enough fabric for both sides.  The back side of the second pillow looks just like the one above.  I went back to Joann Fabrics to see what I could find that would match, and look what I found!  It was perfect...

If you look really close at each flower section, they all have an inspirational quote...

I LOVE how it turned out.  The only thing I told Mr. Cottage is he was never to use it as a pillow for napping.  After all, it's just a dress-type cotton, not something that should really be used in a house or cottage.  I don't want it to wear out...

After I posted it for some of my art friends to see, one of them said I should have submitted it to Somerset Magazines.  Oops, a bit late now, but that's fine with me.  I'll show you some photos of it at the cottage, next week.
