What is a Friend? I will tell you. It is a person with whom you dare to be yourself.

I've anxiously waited for yesterday to arrive since my friend, Barb, told me she was coming to the Sarasota area. Mr. Cottage and I first met Barb and her husband, Gil, when we started coming to Florida about seven years ago. I think one reason we connected so well was our closeness in age and our sense of humor. This is a photo that I took of Barb and Gil that first year, 2006...
Little did we know at the time that they would only be coming for a few more years. On their last trip back home from Florida, Gil was diagnosed with cancer. The following year, they remained home for Gil to receive the medical care and treatments that he needed. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to beat that horrible disease. Those of us who knew Barb, felt her grief. It's been almost one and a half years since Gil died. Several weeks ago, Barb emailed me that she would be coming back to Sarasota with some friends and could we get together. Barb was also very close to Rosemary, another person in our RV park.
So over the past few days, Rosemary and I were anxiously awaiting Barb's visit to our RV park. We met her and her friends at the poolside bar were we were able to catch up with one another. We ate our dinner, poolside, and then when Karaoke began we moved further away from all the music so we could talk. The photo below (left to right) Rosemary, Barb, myself...
We had a great time and showed her some of the changes to our park. We told her that she and her friends should consider renting one of the park models here so we could spend more time together next time she comes back. FYI, Barb is the one who made the comment about all of us "finally reaching our goal and officially becoming trailer trash", where I mentioned in my posting here.
