I thought I would share a bit of southern travel for those of you who have never been to this area of our country. We'll begin down in Key West, FL, which really is the farthest south you can go in America. Route 1 runs from the state of Maine down to Key West...
The mile marker sign, shown above, is supposedly one of the most stolen signs. The stores even sell replicas of it. In the Keys, colorful buildings are everywhere...
Heading north on Route 1 in the Keys is beautiful...
As we get into Georgia and South Carolina, the salt marshes are everywhere...
By the time we get into Virginia and Washington D.C., the architecture of the houses and buildings change to lots of brick and a colonial feel...
These are the steps that lead to the front door of the house high above the sidewalk...
And signs of the Confederacy are found everywhere. The photo below was taken at a Confederate Cemetery in VA. The sections were marked by the state and the years...
So there you have a brief tour of the southern states along the Atlantic coast. From here, we'll be traveling inland and north to arrive back home to Michigan. Can't wait!!
