May Flower Challenge - Day 9, Rhododendron

A rhododendron bud lavender-tipped. Soon a glory of blooms to clash with the cardinals and gladden the hummingbirds!

Our rhododendron is finally starting to open up and blossom, just in time for me to write about it...

Pretty amazing, isn't it.  I love watching a flower bloom with a time-lapsed photography, but that's not what you're getting today.  These just happened to be different buds all in different stages of blooming.  Ours is located in front of our house between our garage and front porch.  You can't help but not notice it when walking up to our house.  It's huge, but not as large as others that I've seen.  We've had to contain it's size through pruning, otherwise it would overtake our driveway and walkway to our porch.  Our neighbor next door has several varieties and theirs are in full bloom...

Aren't they beautiful!  Don't forget to take a peek at Lori Moon's blog to see more lovely flowers.

Now that I finished my slipcover for my chair, I'm hoping to get my studio back into shape and take some new photos to show you some of the changes that I made.

  1. Beautiful rhododendrons, Carol! Our neighbors have some that I admire every year, just don't have any ourselves though. This is such a great time of year with all the new blooms coming up!

  3. No Rhodies here! We have a few up at the mountain house, but this yard is just too small for that much of a commitment! Beautiful!
