Why I Love Pinterest

It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.

I think I might have forgotten to mention that we FINALLY closed on our condo this past Friday.  Hallelujah!  As soon as we closed, I called the moving company and was really surprised when they said they could move our belongings into our new house on Tuesday.  There's a lot of updating that we're going to do ourselves, as well as hire out, but without a second thought we said Tuesday would be find because we just wanted to get this going.  Then I remembered that I really should get some of the trim painted where a few of the heavier pieces of furniture were going to be placed.

The condo we purchased has mostly carpeting throughout but stained oak trim that has to go; which means lots of painting for me (Mr. Cottage doesn't do trim work, ha!).  Actually, I really don't mind it, but to paint trim with the carpeting?  I did this years ago in our other house and I remember how messy and how terrible it looked.

Then I remembered something I had just seen on Pinterest.  If you haven't been to Pinterest yet, you have no idea what you're missing!  You can check out my Pinterest boards right here.  I've been on Pinterest for over two years and currently have over 1000 followers, and I have just under 10,000 pins.  I found a really great idea the other day from exploring on it and just had to try it...

Take some wide packing tape (not painters tape or masking tape).  This is less apt to tear.  Lay it on the carpeting with about 1/4 inch going up the baseboard...

Take a table knife and gently work the tape in under the baseboard...

This is what it should look like when you're finished with this step...

Then use the wide painters tape about to protect the wall...

There are lots of different primers on the market, but when I did this in our older house, this is what I used and it held up for many years without chipping.  It's wonderful...

This is what it looked like after just one coat of primer...

I ended up putting two coats of primer on and only one coat of White Dove Semi-Gloss...

I'll show you photos of the finished baseboard next time.  As far as the rest of the condo goes, I'll be showing before and after photos as work is done on it.  This is one of the views from our deck.  There is a fountain in the pond and it sounds great...

This is another view.  We have a patch of land that we'll be able to plant our own flowers, put up our birdhouses, feeders and lawn ornaments.  Fortunately, we have a full walkout lower level so it will be easy to get to...

Aren't sneak peeks great!
