Where Has The Time Gone?

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
~L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

It is so hard to believe that October is already here and in a few more months, Christmas will arrive along with the cold and snow.  No, I haven't been writing posts like I use to.  It's been a crazy past 2 years for Mr. Cottage and I.  We spent 2013 getting the house ready to sell, actually selling it and having an estate sale, moving into our cottage for the summer and then buying a condo, packing and unpacking.  Would you believe we still have a few boxes that haven't been unpacked yet!

Then this past spring, the fundraiser was set up to help raise money for Nicole's surgery.  If you've never done anything like this before, let me tell you that it is literally a full-time job.  Thank goodness I'm retired and had the time to put into this effort.   On August 16, Nicole, Lori and I flew to PA where we stayed for a full two weeks while Nicole had her final surgery and recovered enough to see her surgeon just before we flew back home.  While we were gone, Mr. Cottage lived up at our cottage taking care of both Molly and Hoover (Nicole and Lori's dog).  I arrived back home on our 46th anniversary and because we had gotten up in the middle of the night to catch our flight home and we were all exhausted and tired, Mr. Cottage and I decided to order carry out from my favorite Chinese Restaurant, First Wok.  From that point on, I had 1 week to finish my huge to-do list before having knee replacement surgery on my right knee.  I'll be showing you some of what I worked on in the coming days.

One thing I wanted to finish was to get up my autumn and Halloween décor before my surgery.  I had seen a number of wreaths that I really liked, but to get a big one would have cost over $100.  So after picking up two leaf garlands, a huge grapevine wreath, floral wire, ribbon and a wreath hanger for under $22, I made my own wreath...

No, I didn't take photos as I made this.  However, all I did was lay one garland around and wrapped it with the floral wire.  I wanted a very full looking wreath and nothing too whimpy so I wrapped the second garland around and secured it with the floral wire.  Then I made a simple bow and hung it on our door.

It's been three weeks since I came home from the hospital and I have to say that overall, my knee has been going great.  I still get tired out and exhausted easily, but after all, this was major surgery and I was told I can't even drive for 5-6 weeks.  I'll see the doctor on October 22 and hopefully my knee will be good enough by then to operate the accelerator and brakes.  I've had in-home physical therapy, but will start going out for PT next week.

I've got lots to share with you and to try and get caught up on what else has been going on.
