Whenever anyone hears that we have a cottage, it's like "WOW"! I love kayaking and now it's at our doorstep...
In addition to our kayaks, we have a canoe, our big boat and Mr. Cottage has his fishing boat. Yes, he has a lot of toys...
One thing I actually love the most, in addition to being on the lake, is all the wild life. A few years ago, a duck laid her eggs in the mulch of the cottage next to us. When the eggs hatched, it was so exciting to see the mother take her ducklings to the lake for the first time...
I literally followed them and snapped photos, as well as posting about it here...
Then there was the time Mr. Cottage yelled at me to grab the camera and come see this. It was a deer, literally, in our lake. You can read more here...
Mr. Cottage just found this turtle in our yard, just last week...
And we have frogs and toads everywhere...
Then we have our sand hill cranes...
After Labor Day, everything slows down and not as many people are out on the lake...
I love watching the leaves turn colors up here...
Living at the lake is fabulous, there's no denying it...
However, are you aware that spiders love being near the water...
We have spiders everywhere! Seriously, EVERYWHERE! I was on the computer last year and saw this spider directly in the window in front of me. Fortunately, this window was closed, but still! I think I might have mentioned that Mr. Cottage and I had a large sailboat for years. Again, the spiders were on the dock, lines, and when he would raise the sails, the monster spiders were on nested up in them. YUCKY!
Then there's this...
I've tried to Google this, but come up empty handed. We think it's some kind of a wasp, but they keep coming into our cottage every year and buzzing around. You can't kill them with a fly swatter. It's like they're wearing armor. I did a blog post about them and a few other sights and sounds at the cottage you can read about here.
We also have lots of geese, so on the way to our boat or anywhere you walk near the water, beware of goose poop and watch where you walk.
Now how about sitting down with me and sipping some iced tea as we relax and watch the lake...
I want to take you for a boat ride around our lake, so stop back on Wednesday for more of our cottage tour!
Such beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteLinda, even the spider and wasp? But thank you anyways!
ReplyDeleteYou could do a series of paintings on (Wild)Life at the Lake! Enjoyed your photos! And a day at the cottage beats a day at work any time!
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on painting animals once I get my painting mojo back!
